We proudly serve the pets of Martinez, CA, and beyond.

At Martinez Animal Hospital, we get a ton of interesting questions from pet parents. Below are some common FAQs that might help answer any questions or concerns.

How often should my pet have a check-up?

We recommend an annual wellness exam for all pets. For senior pets (aged 7 and older), we suggest semiannual wellness exams. If any concerns arise between visits, we advise having your pet seen by their primary provider or, if unavailable, by urgent care.

What should I bring with me to my pet's appointment?

Please submit all previous medical and vaccine records at least 24 hours prior to your visit. We also recommend bringing a stool sample to all exam appointments in case your doctor recommends lab work. If your pet is experiencing diarrhea or other stool-related issues, please bring a sample (approximately 1.5 grams, about the size of a Tootsie Roll).

Do you offer emergency care?

We are not an emergency clinic and are typically unable to accommodate emergency visits. Our schedule is usually booked 1-2 weeks in advance, but we do maintain a cancellation list in case an earlier opening becomes available. For emergency situations, we work closely with several local emergency clinics and can provide them with your pet’s records to ensure seamless care.

For after-hours emergencies, we recommend contacting one of the following facilities:

Do you provide boarding services?

We offer boarding services for our feline patients! Please note that core care requirements must be up to date or brought up to date during the boarding stay. This includes an annual exam, Rabies and FVRCP vaccines, a negative parasite screening, and a negative FIV/FELV test. For more information or pricing, please contact our office!

Do you provide grooming services?

We offer a range of grooming services, including nail trims, anal gland expressions, mat shaving, and sedated shave-downs for feline patients. As with all of our services, your pet must be current on their annual exam.

What if I can’t afford the treatment my pet needs?

We accept various forms of payment. If you’re unable to afford your pet’s treatment, we offer CareCredit and All Pet Card as payment options. Both are credit cards specifically for medical and veterinary expenses, providing instant approval or denial. If approved, you can use the card immediately to cover your pet’s treatment costs.

What is your policy on pet vaccinations?

Our doctors recommend several “core” vaccines for your pet. The rabies vaccine is required by law in our county, and your pet must be current on both their exam and rabies vaccination to receive services at our hospital. Additionally, we offer other “lifestyle” vaccines at MAH based on your pet’s needs.

Can I get my pet's medications from your hospital?

We have an on-site pharmacy to meet most of your pet’s medical needs. For specialty medications, we work closely with compounding pharmacies, and we also offer an online pharmacy for items not available in-house.
